Clubs, sport and music
Wide range of clubs
We run a wide variety of after-school clubs to
appeal to every child. Recent examples are:
• Football.
• Netball.
• Cricket.
• Athletics.
• Rounders.
• Yoga.
• Junk modelling.
• Pop choir.
Music
RockSteady
Alongside curriculum-based music lessons in
each class, we also o昀昀er RockSteady lessons
each week. Led by a specialist music leader
from RockSteady, children can learn one of
the following instruments: electric guitar, bass
guitar, drums, keyboard or vocals. Using their
skills, children form bands and work towards
performing in a termly concert for parents/
carers.
Productions
• Board games.
Each phase of the school also presents a
musical/drama production at various times of
the year, with Year 6 rounding o昀昀 their time
with us with a production at the end of each
summer term.
• Maths games.
Young Voices
• Chess.
• Art and craft.
• Cookery.
• School newspaper.
Sport
We also take Years 5 and 6 every January to the
O2 in London to take part in the Young Voices
concert, which is an opportunity to sing as part
of a massed choir of 8,000 children.
Sport is especially important to us at Myland
Community Primary School. We have a sports
coach who teaches each class once a week,
with a second session each week being taught
by the class teacher. We also take part in the
‘Daily Mile’ and regularly take part in local, inter
school sports events.
Swimming lessons
In addition to PE and sports opportunities,
children are o昀昀ered swimming lessons in the
summer term of Year 6 if they cannot yet swim
25 metres.
